Matchups against perennial national powers Michigan State and North Carolina highlight the 2013-14 University of Texas basketball non-conference schedule released today. The Longhorns also will make an appearance in the prestigious CBE Hall of Fame Classic and travel to Philadelphia to face Temple.
Texas is awaiting two additional dates and opponents to finalize its non-conference schedule. The first date should be UT’s season opener, while the second date should be a home contest in early December.
The Big 12 Conference schedule has not been finalized at this time. UT’s complete television schedule for the 2013-14 season will be announced at a later date.
Following the season opener, Texas will play three consecutive home games, including two as a regional round host site of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. Game dates for the pair of CBE regional home contests will be Nov. 12 and Nov. 18. UT also will host Stephen F. Austin on Nov. 15.
The Longhorns then head to Kansas City for the championship rounds of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic (Nov. 25-26). Texas will be joined in the four-team tourney field by BYU, DePaul and Wichita State. Matchups for the championship rounds in Kansas City will be announced at a later date.
Texas will host UT Arlington (Nov. 29) before playing a game against an opponent to be announced later. The Horns then travel to Philadelphia to play Temple (Dec. 7) at Wells Fargo Center, home of the Philadelphia 76ers, before returning to Austin to host Texas State (Dec. 14).
The Longhorns will face two of top programs in the country during a four-day span in mid-December. Texas travels to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina (Dec. 18), before coming home to host Michigan State (Dec. 21). UT recorded an 85-67 victory against No. 23/19 North Carolina this past year in Austin (Dec. 19, 2012). In MSU’s last trip to Austin (Dec. 22, 2009), the No. 2 Horns posted a 79-68 victory against the No. 8 Spartans.
Texas will conclude its non-conference slate with a home contest against Rice (Dec. 30).
