An 8-year-old boy was killed this weekend in a hit-and-run on the east side of Highway 183.
Officials with the Department of Public Safety say the crash happened when a car pulled over to the side of Highway 183 after losing control from the ice Saturday night.
The people inside the vehicle stepped out, and while they were being helped by another driver, a white Chevy pickup lost control and hit the first car.
The 8-year-old died and his grandfather was injured. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene.
Anyone with information on that driver is asked to call DPS.
This past legislative session, lawmakers increased the penalty for failure to stop and render aid from a third-degree to a second-degree felony.
