One man is in custody for the murder of a woman in North Austin Wednesday.

Police say 52-year-old Andrew Pena shot 22-year-old Angelica Jewel Echols at the Deluxe Auto Service Shop on 8307 Jamestown Drive, where Pena also lived.

Echols and a male companion went to the auto repair shop at 5:41 a.m. to “confront an individual,” according to a statement from police.

The confrontation escalated, according to APD, and Echols was shot once in her upper torso. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital at 6:12 a.m.

Pena is charged with murder, a first degree felony. His bond is set at $1 million.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call APD’s Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or Crimestoppers at 512-472-TIPS. Information leading to ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
