Senior softball player Emily Kirk is everything you want in an athlete.
The four-year letterman is a big hitter – her batting average was .430 last year – and she's also an ace pitcher.
"Her junior year she saw more pitching time,” Head Softball Coach Christen Jonse said. “Ever since her junior year, she's been our star pitcher."
Kirk has set goals for her team, the Stony Point Tigers, to win in a very tough district this year, and she's putting in the time to get there.
"She always has a good attitude, and we rarely see her get negative,” Jonse said.
Kirk has committed to play softball at Indiana, but the sport isn't her end-all-be-all.
"I want to major in English,” she said. “I want to be an English teacher, and I want to teach high school AP English."
Kirk is an avid reader who loves literature. Just like those classical characters, the softball star is as dynamic as they come.
"Softball is my life,” Kirk said. “It's so much fun to come out here every day and just do this for fun and get to go on from here for four more years and get a college education and still get to do what I love."
She's already written the next page of her journey, and right now, it couldn't look better.
The Tigers begin district play in March. They went 8-4 last year.
