AUSTIN, Texas -- Just hours after Texas yet again picked up a crucial win, bad news permeated the air on the Forty Acres. Both Chris Whaley and Johnathan Gray left the Horns win over West Virginia early with injuries, and Sunday, UT discovered both injuries are season-ending.
Whaley, a defensive tackle playing the best football of his career, reportedly needs knee surgery after going down in the first quarter. The senior was carted off the field Saturday and tears could be seen in his eyes as he headed for the locker room.
Meanwhile, Gray, who leads the Longhorns in rushing, hurt his Achilles in a non-contact injury early in the third quarter. He too will have surgery to repair his injury, and is also not expected to return this season.
YNN Sports will likely have more information after Monday's press conference with Mack Brown and the players, when more details will likely be available.
