For the 15th year in a row, Texas State University-San Marcos has broken its record for enrollment.

“As of the 12th class day, there is a record enrollment of 34,229 students and it makes the 15th consecutive year that the university has reached a record total enrollment." Michael Heintze with Texas State University said.

The group of 34,000 students is just 2,000 more people than were at Texas State's first home football game this season.

The expanded stadium isn't the only new building on campus. New student housing opened this year and there is close to a half billion dollars worth of construction underway.

For more and more freshman, Texas State is becoming their first choice.

"Of all the places, this just looked like a better place for me," student Ryan Arentt. "I thought that San Marcos is a really great place to live in and also they had a really good choice in classes that I wanted to take for my major."

Megan Beem is from Houston, she says her friends were surprised that she chose to go to school in San Marcos.

"They thought it was a little weird that I choose Texas State with U of H and Rice in Houston, but Texas State was the better fit for me," Beem said.

Heintze said he expects the trend to continue.

“The university's brand has never been stronger, people's understanding of and appreciation of this institution has never been higher," he said.

In addition to being recording its highest enrollment, Texas State's student body is also more diverse than ever before.

The university says its enrollment was helped by the second largest freshman class in the campus' history. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
