Robert Little’s backyard in Temple is more than just a place for him to unwind. It’s also home to the Little and Farquhar Science Museum, where thousands of rocks are on display.

"I grew up in East Texas where there weren't that many rocks," Little said. "You know they're out there for the finding, you just got to look for them."

His own personal exhibit also features an accumulation of other treasures he has collected over the years.

"I've always liked collecting. I collected arrowheads growing up as a kid,” Little said. “I got a collection of old wooden screwdrivers, there's a collection of old buttons back there."

Little’s assortments are also a way for the science teacher to inspire young minds. He opens his museum to about 100 children and adults a year.

"I don't think you own anything, you just take care of it while you're here, and in time you pass it on to someone else. And that's what I'm hoping for," Little said.

Admission to the Little and Farquhar Science Museum is free. Call (254) 778-1592 for tour availability. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
